Substudy UCC-SMART 2

Patients with a history of CVD or diabetes are invited to participate in the SMART-2 substudy. In this study, the baseline measurements of UCC-SMART are repeated in order to investigate the course of atherosclerosis and vascular risk factors over time, and to evaluate the effects of treatment. Patients participated in SMART-2 after a median of 9.9 years (IQR 9.2–10.8) since their inclusion in UCC-SMART. As with UCC-SMART, the findings of SMART-2 with an accompanying treatment recommendation are communicated to the patient, his or her treating medical specialist and general practitioner.
